• In Designing HyperFinder™, I had already seen a few minifinders that had some nice features, but none of them had enough versatility to make me want to use them in place of the traditional Macintosh finder. The only way I could see that happen was to provide for almost every feature that the Mac-finder has. So I set out to put together my own Finder stack that could launch applications, documents, DA's, HyperCard stacks, and link you to anything on your hard disk via a Custom HOME STACK.
• The Key to HyperFinder™ is that there are 3 buttons that can link you to all of the Programs, Documents, and Stacks on your Hard Drive. Two of the three buttons actually create linked buttons of your Applications or Documents located on your Hard Drive. The third button lets you open applications that you seldom use, or those that have not been installed in HyperFinder Index Cards.
• I also imported a few buttons from Apple's Home Stack, to link up HyperFinder™ and Apple stacks. I have also incorporated extra buttons that let you open any stack, Quit to the Mac Finder, open utilities, execute menu commands, play Sounds, and More!
• Use the "Open Application" button to Run Applications that are not installed in your HyperFinder™ cards. This is a useful feature since without it, you would have to go back to the Macintosh Finder to run an application.
*** TO USE THE ADD BUTTONS -> FIRST GO TO THE 'INDEX CARD' YOU WISH TO ADD TO!!!
• Use the "Add Application" Button to create an Application Button for HyperFinder™. You will see a dialog box in which you are prompted for the Path or "Link"to the Application on your Hard Drive. Simply double-click on the folder that contains the program on your hard drive and double-click on the program itself. HyperFinder will then make a Button out of the program you have just "linked" it to. Once you make the link once, HyperFinder™ remembers it unless you move it! In v3.5 You are given a choice of having Buttons by Name or by Icon!
• Use the "Add Document" Button to create a Document Button for HyperFinder™. When you create Document Buttons, YOU MUST LINK THEM TWICE! First you must establish the link to the APPLICATION, and then a link to the DOCUMENT. This will create a button in HyperFinder that will let you go right to a document on your Hard Drive! You are given a choice of having Buttons By Name or By Icon! For Documents, By Name is more space efficient!!!
• The "Add Document" Button is smart and will not let you accidentally combine unlike programs and documents. It will also only give you Program Titles on the first link, and Document Titles to choose from on the second link. This helps avoid any confusion during the linking process. However if you get lost Linking then simply cancel and try again!
• Once done, the buttons you have created will memorize the link and put the "PathNames" into the Button's script. The buttons you created can then be re-sized, or you can change the name, auto Hilite, choose a different border, or style, and more.
• With a little basic knowledge of HyperCard you can easily customize HyperFinder™ for your own uses. However the 3 buttons : : : "Add Application", Add Document", and
"Open Application", will do most of the work for you, without having to know HyperTalk language. Note that in the Mac Finder you normally double click to get around, but in HyperFinder‚Ñ¢ you need only click ONCE on BUTTONS. You will still need to use the double click method for linking buttons to your programs and documents, but once done you're in business! Of course you can also use the "Open APPLICATION Button" in the Home Card.
• If you run out of space for your File Buttons, you can add cards to this stack as you need space for. Simply select 'New Card' from the Edit Menu and you'll have a new card ready!
Final Important Notes !!! : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
• If you change the location of your Programs and Data Files on your hard drive, you must also Re-Link your buttons in HyperFinder™. HyperCard will ask you . . ."Where is " ?". Simply delete the button and use the 'ADD' buttons to create a new link to the program or data file.
• Since HyperFinder™ requires HyperCard to run, you will notice that it uses up a lot of memory...at least 1mb. To utilitize HyperFinder™ a minimum of 1 megabyte is required.
For those with 2.5 meagbytes or more... HyperFinder‚Ñ¢ works great under MultiFinder!
• ABOUT COMPACTING . . . Only use the "Compact Stack" feature after you quit HyperCard... then Reopen Hypercard and Compact. Otherwise you will lose Icon ID's from the Buttons you have installed on the various card provided.
